Tadaaaa! Here's my surprise headboard... it's a real authentic horsegate! Oh yes it is... I'm brinin' that dream barn right into my own bedroom. :)
I've had the gate in my front entry for several years and loved it! But, well, a new challenge that was set before me made me do it. (I can't say no to challenges...)
"DIY on a Dime: Easy Design Projects for Every Space"
A decor "hack" type project - re-doing or upgrading a centerpiece or some antique item, thrifted object, IKEA furniture, etc. in your home with a $100 budget.
Under $100? You're on! :)
Not many can purchase a brand new headboard for under $100 plus I wanted more than just a headboard... I want the whole room done! So I'm going for the full meal deal... I'm gonna give my WHOLE BEDROOM a new look for under $100 even though the sponsored part of this challenge is really about the bed. Can I do it? We shall see. :)
There we go, now we're talkin'! Feel better, boyfriend? :)
Up for grabs is a $50 Home Depot gift card!

I seriously want to buy a new headboard. I have the ugliest laquer 80's bedroom set. I'm so ready for a change.
ReplyDeleteI want to buy one of Home Depot paneled doors for a head board!
ReplyDeletep.s. love the idea of the new gate for your head board...can't wiat to see it!
ReplyDeleteWell, my dream item is a ceiling fan and electricity to the fan. I know, that is probably not very decorator chic but sometimes in the summer it sure would be nice. Can't wait for the reveal either!

ReplyDeleteI am dying for a farmhouse sink! I love how the blog is divided up - you rock as always.
ReplyDeleteGoing to be a beautiful room I am sure!
ReplyDeleteI would like some heavy decorative chain. I have an old barrel ring that I wired glass insulators to that I want to hang from my pergola and put tea lights in. Wanted to use blue insulator but I only have 2 so I had to use clear. :( Thanks so much! gardener61@gmail.com
My dream items are two chandys to hang over the bed in the master bedroom. Also a window paned door to use as a wall feature.
ReplyDeleteHugs
SueAnn
my dream room element is beadboard for the ceiling....that is where it all begins.

I really want a chandelier in my bedroom! With pretty crystals :)
ReplyDeleteWould love to convert a dry sink into a functioning sink
ReplyDeleteWe just moved two months ago into this HUGE, yet lovely house. Need some type of lighting fixture for the home office.
ReplyDeleteA Farmers sink or crystal chandelier both must haves someday
ReplyDeleteI guess my dream item would be an old schoolhouse light fixture for the kitchen. We currently have old track lights (bleh!) which are completely without charm.
ReplyDeletepaint, paint, and more paint, and how about some flowers for a new spring garden :)
ReplyDeleteI need more painting tools for my son's room redo.
ReplyDeleteA working sink in the basement
ReplyDeleteangelsspot(at)hotmail(dot)com
waving both hands in the air.. PLEASE me me me..
ReplyDeletewith 50.00 at home depot I could get paint for my bedroom and remold around my window. I can do the work myself. I'd take photos and post all about it.
I rarely enter giveaways but this would be a dream win. woooohooooo
thanks for the chance.
Hmmmm....so many things I would like to have. I guess, since I'm wanting to paint my kitchen cabinets, I'd love to have some new door & drawer hardware in an oil rubbed bronze finish.
ReplyDeleteI really want to get a new comfy sofa. I have always had a Queen Anne camel back, but at 56 I just want to relax.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your blog! Thanks for sharing!
Annie
I am dying for a new exhaust fan above the stove... one that actually vents outdoors instead of into the kitchen/house... ick! (or I would give the gift card to my in-laws as they have some projects that really need done but can't afford the supplies right now as they are both retired this fall but only one retirement was planned. we like to surprise them with our contest giveaway winnings.)
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm really dreaming of is an old clerks counter. I want one with the grain bins on the front. I think it would make a fabulous console for my TV. Or maybe a super soft and squishy dreamy white sofa that would be all mine to sink into. With two kids and a big dog that will not likely happen . Oh well a girl can dream.
ReplyDeleteDream is to find a couple rustic shutters and mount a coach light on each to place on either side of the sofa. Coach lights from Home Depot of course!
ReplyDeleteI gave the giveaway a shout out on Twitter and Facebook. Yay! I love Home Depot.
ReplyDeleteI want to buy new lamps for the living room
ReplyDeletejohn.joseph79@yahoo.com
My girl friend recently bought a portable fireplace looking space heater at H.D.
ReplyDeleteI hate to be that sort of copy cat but it is cute and I can lift it and carry it from room to room by myself!
As a finishing touch to my bathroom facelift, I would love a new mirror I saw at HD - just a rectangular mirror with a mirrored frame - gorgeous, but a little above my budget right now - the $50 gift card would help make it happen!!
ReplyDeleteI've posted this on my blog now too!
ReplyDeletehttp://kabamfamily.blogspot.com/2012/02/could-you-use-50.html
A farm sink would be great or atleast new faucets.. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteMisty
A chandelier for the living room!
ReplyDeleteI'm searching for the perfect lights for over my kitchen sink.... and searching, and searching - I'm so picky these days!
ReplyDeleteI need some new flooring... I have some old carpeting to get rid of in the bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI tweeted your giveaway also!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have an amazing headboard!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted the giveaway! https://twitter.com/#!/laroyal06/status/170147378224041987
ReplyDeleteMy dream purchase would be a new sink for the bathroom. One of those "vessel" bowls. What a great giveaway! Can't wait to see what you do to your bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI just posted about your giveaway! Good luck to everyone!
ReplyDeleteI want to add a "wall of curtains" in the bedroom to compensate for the fact the builder put the window left of center - dang construction guys! THANKS for the opportunity to win. I dont blog, but love reading yours.
ReplyDeleteI would buy a chandelier!!
ReplyDeleteMy dream element is by far a headboard for the bed. We've been married for almost 8 years and have never had one. I want something unique and I happen to have something in mind. The problem is...I don't have the proper tools to get it done at home. I would use the HD gift card for a radial saw to use on this and many more projects that I don't yet know I have.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance! If I can figure it out I'll share this on my blog! ;) Sorta new to the blogging stuff.
I am dying for a new rug right now. The $50 one I bought two years ago is giving up the ghost!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what dream room element I want to buy, but I do need to know what a skill test is that a Canadian has to pass if they win, and if the handsome fellow comes with the re-do?
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Bliss, it's a Canadian law thing. They have to answer a skill testing question (math equation generally) in order to claim a prize. Bylaws are getting a little fussier so it's time to get 'legal' with sweepstakes and contests.
DeletePaint! I have wanted to paint my two bedside tables for a few years and just need an extra boost to make me do it. A trip to Home Depot with a gift card in hand is just that boost. :) PS - Looking forward to see your bedroom re-do! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI do believe that my husband would think I'd lost my ever-lovin' mind if I hauled the horsegate into the bedroom... LOL... that, and all the horses would escape to the barnyard and be into the feed and hay...
ReplyDeletebut I like it, I really do! I'll just have to live vicariously through you and your horsegate headboard!
country blessings. Dixie
Can't wait to see the finished product. I need a new floor in my hallway & kitchen. Decisions, decisions.....hate decisions.....send me a decorating fairy to get some of this stuff done. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'd like a headboard for our bed- something simple- maybe padded fabric? But we erally need a rug for the kids basement play area.
ReplyDeleteI'd love a chandelier for my daughter's room.

ReplyDeletethe room i'm trying to work on right now is my bathroom. I can't afford to much to replace everything so i'm trying to make it my self. I pretty much live at home depot since it's a couple minute drive from my house... lol thats never a gd thing. - tonya = )
ReplyDeletei've shared the contest to all my fb friends... i'm going to keep my fingures and toes crossed for luck - tonya
ReplyDeleteI could really use some new bookcases. I just rearranged the music room and could use some shelving!
ReplyDeleteFresh paint...kinda boring, but we bought our DREAM home a year ago...except I never dreamed to have so much old lady lookin' wall paper in majority of the house. I want to take off all the wall paper and give all the walls a fresh new wardrobe! What isn't wall-papered is hospital room WHITE...ugh! So that's it for me...just a bunch of paint!
ReplyDeleteP.S. So far...I LOVE the idea you've got goin...can't wait to see the outcome! Oh...and I really like how you had your entry way...SUPER CUTE!
I need some new lamps. P.S. Does the new boyfriend come to help set them up? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI could make that happen for you! I'll have buy drawing program open in case you win. :)
DeleteCan't wait to see the finished product!!
ReplyDeleteI would love one of those antiqued bronze waterfall faucets to go with my new vanity in the bathroom..we purchased a marble top at a seconds store a few years back and got our moneys worth when the plastic nasty veneer cracked off and left a nasty looking mess. I am dreaming of a self- built rustic looking vanity with a barnish look and one of those faucets to go in there. Everything else I can make to fit the look but that faucet..hmmm... $50 would get me closer.
ReplyDeleteWe need some new interior doors!
ReplyDeleteA new mirror! I had an awesome antique one that looked SO GOOD in there, and in the freak accident during a storm the window was cracked about an inch and it blew off the wall and shattered all over the floor. SO sad.
ReplyDeletePaint!!!!
ReplyDeletebuckets and buckets!!
thanks for the awesome giveaway!!
hugs!
Loui♥
I need a new light fixture for my bathroom
ReplyDeleteand some paint for my bedroom to freshen it up.
My bedroom hasn't been painted fo 15 yrs.
Love the idea of the gate for a headboard.

ReplyDeleteIs your boyfriend for sale? Seriously, this is huge, I am such a fun girl, I want beadboard to redo my bathroom walls, told ya I'm fun!;)
ReplyDeleteHave been working towards a new front door. Sadly, our current one is hollow-core. Not good. Not good at all.
ReplyDeleteI love how a project takes on a life of it's own with a good challenge!! I would love to get a new light fixture for my picture perfect room this month! I've been working around the one I have and I just want a different one lol thanks Donna!
ReplyDeleteOh Donna Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteI love this barn gate headboard idea. How romantic and country. Love it sweetie.
This is an easy one for me. I have been wanting to repaint the bedroom and makeover our old chest of drawers and dresser. It is quite outdated. I would be so happy with these simple changes.
Many thanks for the wonderful opportunity. Country hugs sweetie, Sherry
Love the gate idea for your headboard! I so want to update my bedroom furniture.
ReplyDeleteI would love to pull up the wood floors in our kitchen and put in tile. The wood is in rough shape, and tired of worrying about water spills or puddles damaging it even further.
ReplyDeleteI would love to put marble floors in our living room.

First let me say that I love that you showed us you punched holes in the wall for the door knob! that is so something I would do! My dream item would be, new lights for the bathroom redo, now in progress, paint kit for the counters or the kitchen cabnets, oh I could go on and on. But for sure I would find the perfect item at HD. Thanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI sooooo need to redo the floor in my laundry room! I pulled up a piece of the "builder special" vinyl intending to stain the concrete underneath and polish it for the rustic look, but found a huge layer of adhesive so now it has been sitting for oh, probably 2 years while I try to figure out what I want to do instead!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are planning to build:
ReplyDeletea headboard
wall shelves
flower wall vases (out of metal parts)
All from home Depot.
So, if win, this would be perfect!
~ Dana
I would be buying some bead board for a sweet project I am working on!
ReplyDeleteTile for the fireplace redo-we need to do the hearth now...and fifty bucks to HD would help!
ReplyDeleteI love the gate - it is so perfect in your entry and will be a different perfect in your room! My dream purchase is the supplies for making a kitchen table. My table was meant as a temporary fix 12 years ago... The other thing I'm on a look out for is the perfect flooring for my living room. I love my plywood floor, but it's just the subfloor - probably not that great to just live on. :-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to help my mom finish redoing her bathroom. It's been unfinished for years and I know she wants to get it done.
ReplyDeletemirrors and light fixtures to finish off my babies' redone bathroom!!

ReplyDeleteBut I cannot wait to see what you come up with!!

ReplyDeleteI want some glass mosaic tiles for my bathroom remodel. all the ones I see that I really like are like $20 a square... and I need 36 squares! OUCH!!!

kosec@sbcglobal.net

ReplyDeleteWould love ceiling fans for the bedrooms!!!
ReplyDeletewould LOVE new curtains for our bedroom. bought ours years ago and the room really needs a change!
ReplyDeletehmmmmmmm -- ONE of my "dream room" elements I would love to buy would be a new light fixture for the kitchen. The way the counters are configured, all workspace is cast in shadow. (oh - said shadow assisted by the ol' flourescent lights...)
ReplyDeleteI so want new granite countertops with a farmhouse sink.
ReplyDeleteI want the ladder you took out of your room and if I win then I'll buy a new sander so my poor arms and hands don't get so tired of sanding by hand!
ReplyDeleteOh girl, I can't wait to see it finished! The dream room element I want to buy is more beadboard. Hubby and I are putting it on the ceiling and wall in our living room. Only bought enough for the ceiling so far. The gift card would be great to use to buy the rest. Thanks for offering this give away. Home Depot is (to me) a fun craft store.

ReplyDeleteI love the gate idea - fabulous as usual!
ReplyDeleteOh what I could do with $50 at Home Depot! Paint, hardware, maybe a new hand sander, or put it towards a nail gun..... or maybe I'll just go ahead and get some bead-board and finally finish the powder room!
My dream item would cost a little more than $50 but I really want some cabinets for my dining area. We replaced our kitchen cabinets a few years ago and, of course, I purchased the new ones at Home Depot. I also want new lighting and mirror for my bathrooms. Love your blogs!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love a chandelier in my master bedroom. I would love a $50 Home Depot card. I'm buying lights for my family room there tomorrow and will be buying a lot of stuff from them in the future. Just starting to repaint the whole house and redo a few rooms. Love your blog Donna. You're very inspirational. I love how you can make something beautiful out of practically nothing. slbolderson@hotmail.com

(hurry up with that headboard, would ya...? lol!)
I want to paint my kitchen cabinets and put in a new farmhouse sink. Thanks for the great giveway
ReplyDeleteI think some new paint and a new headboard would be perfect
ReplyDeletePAINT! I desperately need paint to finish up the last bits of my ongoing bedroom redo. I've done great so far, shopping my local antique co-ops for the perfect pieces for my room. I've replaced a child sized armoire and chest of drawers with what I believe was an old kitchen hutch for only 200. My form style bookcase was replaced by a beautiful art deco style hutch for $190. And my bookcase headboard was replaced with an old store display as a side table and a pair of miss matched shutters for my headboard at only $35 & $24 respectively. Unfortunatly they are all different colors and desperately need a cohesive color scheme!
ReplyDeletei would love to have a floor to ceiling padded headboard! scg00387 at yahoo dot com

ReplyDeleteMy dream is a new headboard! Our bedroom needs a LOT of work. It's the one room that keeps getting neglected.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and now look at junk in such different and exciting ways! My dream is a new bathroom sink and vanity.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! Love the headboard but knowing my luck, I'd be the one to brain myself on the knob!! I've been drooling over a farmhouse sink too as several other posters have mentioned as well. Thanks for sharing your creativity!
ReplyDeleteI love your craziness!! I bring barn junk into the house as well. I would like to post my new basement stairs but not sure how. I'll check into it.
ReplyDeleteI would love a new area rug in the bedroom OR to spray paint my black iron bed to look like a brass bed!
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway! Skill testing questions? Gosh...hope I can use my calculator!
I desperately need a new ceiling fan, as I am so stinkin tired of listening to the one that I have now creak(croak) around.....lol I also want to paint in there, and I need a new shower head in the master bath.......dont ask!!!!
ReplyDeleteI Love your blog, Donna!!!!! Thank-You so much for all that you do :-)

I recently bought my 14 year old daughter a thrift store dresser. It's crying out for new paint and new hardware. My daughter has a great sense of style and would love it repainted in either bright turquoise or bright coral. Thanks for a fun giveaway and good luck, everyone! kemyers3 at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI can't BELIEVE you brought this up! We were just discussing this today on our way to Cheyenne- We have been sleeping on an ugly brass bed (and I DO NOT mean a delightful, antique, florished, graceful brass bed)I mean an UGLY 70's style brass bed that I swore when we inherited it with the house I would not sleep on for even a month -
ReplyDeleteI'm still sleeping with that headboard twenty years later-
so yeah- a headboard-
on a lighter, less bitter note-
so excited about your big reveal and really not thinking you'll have any problems bringing it in for under $100.00- your only problem will be having too many great ideas and having to pick one...
oh gosh how to choose...
ReplyDeletemy dream element would probably be some type of awesome rustic rug for my living room... whether homemade, thrifted, or found elsewhere.
To decide on just one thing would be hard. But if I had too lighting for my studio would win

I hate my bathroom, when the funds become available, my first project is to use decorative tile around the ugly, over sized mirror above the sink. Then to remove the door on the linen closet - nobody ever closes it anyway. I would hang a decorative curtain. I would match the decorative curtain on the front of the bathroom cabinet instead of the doors that are currently there. With $50 I would purchase glue, tile, and tension rods.
ReplyDeleteWhere to begin? So many rooms, so little money! Right now I'm working on my master bath and would love some new light fixtures! Love the chance to perhaps offset the cost! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI need a headboard too! I'm currently without so this could be the start.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a plank ceiling in our kitchen (it would also be helpful to cover up the water damage from a previously leaky roof - ugh!).
ReplyDeletecurtvonda(at)comcast(dot)net
A dream element for my bedroom would be a nice, big ole' cracklin fireplace.....ahhhhh. A girl can dream, can't she?! ;) Hope I win!
ReplyDeleteI am looking to redo our master as well. Tired of the 80's solid oak set. Want an old antique wrought iron headboard! And a wood plank wall, and a beam on the ceiling... The list ocontinues!
ReplyDeleteI want to redo my living room and get new light fixtures.
